| Print Rooms In 1999, I had the pleasure and rare opportunity to be trained in the decorative art of making Print Rooms. A Print Room is a form of decoration that was popular in the 18th Century. It started as a way to display pictures collected on a “grand tour” of Europe that a young aristocrat would often do as part of one’s education. Black and white printed scenes, objects or botanicals are pasted onto the walls in carefully planned groupings. They are ‘framed’ in decorative paper borders and then often each print is then embellished with whimsical hanging pieces such as ribbon or link chain. Architectural details are added in the form of elaborate cornices, dados and chair rails – all out of printed reproduction designs and glued to the walls. The result is a unique and charming display.
